About Dr. Best

As the director of The Neuroscience Center, Steve Best, MD lends his high-level expertise in neuropsychiatry to the Deerfield, Illinois, area and beyond. In addition to his directorial position at the center, he serves as medical director for Highland Park’s Abbott House and a board member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Dr. Best earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Afterward, he secured a fellowship at Chicago Medical School with a particular focus on functional brain imaging to predict treatment outcomes. Dr. Best is board certified in psychiatry with a subspecialty in pediatric and adult neuropsychiatry.

Dr. Best also obtained post-fellowship training in psychopharmacology and brain stimulation by some of the founders of external neuromodulation (rTMS, tES/tDCS). Such high-level training has allowed him to provide exceptional neurologic and psychiatric care to his patients.

At The Neuroscience Center, Dr. Best gives hope to patients with treatment-resistant depression and pain. He developed a novel technique, combining ketamine infusions and brain stimulation in the same treatment. This therapy has an 85% success rate for patients with treatment-resistant depression. Dr. Best has published several neuroscience research reports about his techniques in various medical publications.

When he isn’t at work, Dr. Best enjoys spontaneous weekend adventures with his two children, experiencing Chicagoland cultural events, and experimenting on his barbecue with family and friends. They all enjoy participating in the Boy Scouts and playing tennis together.
